History

When starting back in 1941, Robert Peterson already had other stores in the food industry. He started by opening a drive in place in San Diego but later modified it to an intercom ordering entity. He started it as El Cajon Boulevard but ten years later changed it to Jack in the Box. The type of delivery also changed with the store being operated as a drive through offering hamburgers. As part of the modification, the owner had two intercoms installed to speed up service delivery. This led to increased popularity with more profitability leading to the formation of a holding company for the restaurant in 1960.

Following this success, Peterson decided to sell this holding company, a bold move that reaped benefits leading to more growth and more outlets. By the 1970s, Jack in the Box began a franchise and expand to other locations. However, this success was cut short when they started experiencing problems that eventually led to the selling of some of the outlets they had already opened and halting of potential expansions. In the 1980s, Jack in the Box picked up their sales again and has been going steady ever since. One of their remarkable profitability came from the sale of their holding company, food maker, which ended up being a publicly traded company.
