History

Jersey Mike’s history is a source of inspiration and admiration since it proves that anyone can start a business and excel at it so long as they have passion. The restaurant was started in 1956 but then changed ownership and leadership for almost two decades. By 1975, the store already had a third owner who was looking to sell again. This move attracted a teenager who through the support of his mother and high school coach, bought the place. It was initially known as mikes submarines and was a source of employment to Peter Cancro, the teenager who lived in the area.

By 2014, Jersey Mike’s restaurant had over 1000 stored in various locations, most of which he acquired through franchising. After starting franchising in 1987, the stores increased its stores, a move that started increasing their benefits steadily. The profitability encouraged them to expand and in 2015 they opened over 100 new stores. As the chain expanded, Jersey Mike’s subs menu prices and menu items also grew. They added new flavors to their sandwiches and even included catering orders in the menu. The prices have also changed over the years but they remain relatively fair even though to some, they may be expensive.
